HOW TO STAY ALIVE

Guide · 6 min read · Updated

The longer you live, the bigger you get – and the bigger you get, the more the arena wants you gone. These twelve habits keep good players alive in crowded skies.

Read the arena

1. Look before you fly

Your first seconds after spawning are shielded. Spend them reading the map: big dragons, crowded fights, open space. Then pick a direction with orbs and no giants.

2. Stay near the edge of fights, not in them

Fights drop loot. The winner of a fight is often hurt, and the orbs fall where the loser's body was. Circle the fight, eat what spills out, and leave before anyone turns on you.

3. Watch for the dashed line

A charged Breath is always announced by a dashed aim line. If it points at you, turn out of it immediately. Sound helps too – the charge has its own rising sound.

Avoid the body trap

4. Never cross in front of a long dragon

Flying head-first into any body ends you, whatever your size. The most common defeat in the game is crossing a big dragon's path just as it turns.

5. Beware of the curl

Long dragons like to circle around smaller ones and close the loop. If a body starts curving around you, leave through the open side early – don't wait for the gap to shrink.

6. Give yourself turning room

Your dragon turns at a limited rate, and turns wider while boosting. Keep space between your head and any body, especially in narrow passages between two dragons.

Spend wisely

7. Boost to escape, not to travel

Boosting burns Might every second. Short bursts to cross a danger line or to break away from a chaser are worth it; boosting across an empty map is not.

8. Keep Spirit for defense

If your Spirit bar is empty you cannot answer an attacker. Keep at least one quick shot in reserve – a fast slice on a chasing dragon's body often makes it give up.

9. Rest after firing

Every shot has a 1.8 second cooldown. Fire, then move away while you cannot fire again – the moment just after a shot is when you are most exposed.

Know the rules that save you

10. Head-to-head favors Might

If two heads collide, the dragon with more Might survives. Against smaller dragons, a head-on approach is safe; against bigger ones, never.

11. Giants have armor

If you are more than twice the size of an attacker, its first headshot only cracks you. When you hear the crack, get away: for five seconds anyone can finish you with one headshot.

12. Use your Rebirth well

Your first defeat in a life brings you back with half your Might and a short shield. Use the shield to reach safe sky, not to take revenge – the dragon that beat you is still there.

Survival mode is different. In Survival there is no Rebirth and the safe zone shrinks over time. Staying inside the zone matters more than any fight.
