FOUR SKIES

Comic · Dragons League Chronicles · Episode 4 · Updated

Shadow breathes storm. But the League has four skies – fire, ice, storm and wind – and the dragons who live in them. Which one is the strongest?

The young dark dragon arriving where four skies meet: fire, ice, lightning and wind
1. Where the four skies meet.

Far beyond the arena, Shadow found a place it had only heard about in stories: the point where the four skies touch. To one side the air burned; to another it froze into crystal; lightning danced in the third, and the fourth was nothing but wind and leaves. Shadow had a question, and it hoped someone here could answer it.

A blazing orange fire dragon greeting the young dark dragon in a sky of embers
2. Inferno, of the burning sky.

"Fire is the strongest," said Inferno, curling through the embers with a wide grin. "Everyone knows that. Look at my flames!" They were beautiful – roaring, bright, impossible to ignore. Shadow was almost convinced.

An icy blue crystal dragon gliding through falling snow beside the young dark dragon
3. Frost, of the frozen sky.

"Ice," said Frost quietly, gliding through the falling snow. "Patience wins. You wait, you watch the lines, you strike once." Its Breath shattered into a thousand glittering shards. Shadow had to admit it was just as beautiful.

An electric yellow and blue dragon racing the young dark dragon in a thunderstorm
4. Static, of the thunder sky.

"Storm, obviously," laughed Static, crackling with sparks as it raced Shadow through the clouds. "You're a storm dragon too – you know!" Its lightning forked across the sky in yellow and blue. Shadow's own lightning was violet. Neither looked weaker.

A white and mint-green wind dragon looping around the young dark dragon among swirling leaves
5. Breeze, of the wind sky.

"None of them," said Breeze, looping lazily around Shadow – the same wind dragon that had dodged Shadow's very first Breath. "Here is the secret of the four skies: our Breaths look different, sound different, feel different. But they cut the same. They reach the same. They cost the same. The sky never chooses a winner."

Five dragons flying side by side toward the rising sun, each breathing its own element: fire, ice, violet lightning, yellow lightning and wind
6. Five dragons, one rulebook.

At dawn the five of them flew side by side toward the sun, each breathing its own element into the sky – fire, ice, two kinds of lightning and wind. Shadow finally understood. In the League, the element is your style. Your skill is the only thing that makes you stronger.
