THE BREATH

Comic · Dragons League Chronicles · Episode 3 · Updated

Every dragon in the League has one attack: the Elemental Breath. Shadow is about to learn that having it and mastering it are two very different things.

The young dark dragon charging violet lightning in its jaws, a dashed aim line pointing at a white and mint-green dragon
1. Shadow's first real Breath.

Shadow felt the storm gather in its chest – a crackle of violet lightning building between its jaws. The longer it held, the stronger it grew. In front of it, a thin dashed line of light stretched across the sky, straight toward a white and mint-green dragon gliding on the wind.

2. Everyone saw it coming.

The wind dragon did not even look worried. It glanced at the dashed line, rolled lazily to the side, and the beam tore through empty air. "Next time," it called over its shoulder, "try not to announce it." Shadow had forgotten the first rule it had ever learned: everyone can see the line.

3. So Shadow practiced.

Day after day, above a sea of clouds, Shadow trained. Short taps instead of long charges – quick, cheap bursts that left no time to dodge. Shadow learned that a tap could not end a dragon, but it could cut one. And it learned that every Breath costs Spirit, which only comes back by eating orbs.

The young dark dragon slicing the tail of a black dragon with violet markings, the cut tail breaking into golden orbs
4. The first slice.

The next time a rival crossed its path – a black dragon with violet markings – Shadow did not wait. A quick burst caught the rival's tail, and everything behind the cut broke away into glowing orbs. The rival hissed and fled, shorter than before. Shadow ate the orbs. The lesson was simple: a body hit slices; it does not end.

Head-on duel: the dark dragon holding a charged breath, the aim line pointing exactly at the rival's head
5. The rival came back.

It came straight at Shadow, head first, angry. This time Shadow held its charge – long enough to be strong, not so long that the rival could react. The dashed line pointed exactly at the rival's head. Shadow had one heartbeat to decide. It released.

The violet beam hitting the rival's head in a bright flash, the rival bursting into golden orbs, the dark dragon roaring
6. A headshot.

The beam struck the head in a flash of violet light, and the rival burst into a shower of golden orbs. A charged Breath to the head – the one shot that ends a dragon on the spot. Shadow roared, and felt its Spirit surge back: a headshot pays for itself. Far away, a white and mint-green dragon nodded, almost impressed.

Behind the episode

This is the Elemental Breath exactly as it works in the game: hold to charge, release to fire, and everyone sees your dashed aim line. A hit on the body slices the tail into orbs; a hit on the head with at least about 60 % charge is a headshot. A headshot also refunds a full shot of Spirit. All the details are in the Elemental Breath guide.
