THE CROWN

Comic · Dragons League Chronicles · Episode 2 · Updated

Shadow has learned to fly and to dodge. Now it wants to understand the golden light it saw on the horizon – the Crown.

A crowded sky arena where dozens of dragons circle a giant orange dragon wearing a golden crown of light, the young dark dragon watching from behind a cloud
1. The arena never sleeps around the Crown.

Shadow found it at noon, in the busiest part of the sky. Dozens of dragons circled in wide loops, never quite daring to come close. In the middle, a giant of blazing orange scales turned slowly, and above its horns floated a crown made of pure golden light. Shadow stayed behind a cloud and watched.

2. The giant was not afraid.

Up close, the crowned dragon was even bigger than Shadow had imagined. It smiled the smile of a dragon that had been the mightiest in the sky for a long time. "Little ones always watch," it rumbled, without even turning its head. "Watching is all they ever do."

Three dragons attacking the crowned giant from three sides with beams of light while it coils its body like a wall
3. Then three of them tried at once.

A teal dragon, a green one and a yellow one struck together, from three sides. The giant did not flee. It coiled its enormous body into a wall, and the attackers had to twist away to avoid crashing into it. Shadow understood something important: a long body is not only a target. It is a weapon.

The crowned giant bursting into a cascade of glowing golden orbs, its crown of light spinning in the air
4. But no one keeps the Crown forever.

It took one mistake. The giant turned its head toward the teal dragon, and a charged beam from the yellow one caught it right on the head. The great body broke into light – a waterfall of golden orbs pouring down through the sky, more than Shadow had ever seen. The Crown spun in the air, looking for a new head.

The young dark dragon diving into the cascade of falling golden orbs, swallowing them and growing longer
5. The bounty belongs to the fastest.

Every dragon dived at once. Shadow was small, but it was close, and it was quick. It swallowed orb after orb, feeling its body stretch longer with each one. The crowned dragon had carried a bounty – more loot than any ordinary dragon – and for a few wild seconds, the whole arena was a feast.

At night, the young dark dragon, now bigger, flying with determination toward a new crowned dragon on the horizon
6. That night, the Crown had a new owner.

It was not Shadow. Not yet. But Shadow was longer now, and wiser, and it knew three things it had not known that morning: the Crown goes to the mightiest, everyone hunts it, and when it falls, it feeds whoever is ready. It turned toward the new golden light on the horizon. One day, it thought. One day.
